Our Kind Of Love

In Spain aged 20

20 Years Old – 5 Weeks of Dating

I fell in love my with my husband the second I met him. It was one of those breathtaking moments that sweeps you off your feet. I had just started a new job at the Civil service and he was the office joker. We were both 19 and apart from the small fact I had been dating someone else for 2 years we soon found ourselves an item. Within weeks Lee had moved into my parent’s house and within months we rented out 1st flat. Life for us was just one big party. The Christmas of 2003 while obsessing over the Sex & The City box set he had just brought me, I gave in to Lee’s 10th request to try a chocolate from the box in front of me. There among the praline shells was a neat little diamond ring and Lee on one knee asking me to marry him. I was over the moon, 21 and engaged.

Christmas 2003 – The Day We Got Engaged

I truly don’t think either of us really knew what it meant to be engaged and the critics around us said we would never last. The next 4 years saw us both move jobs to a travel company in Preston where we used the staff discount to travel America and the UAE  staying in 5-star hotels, living a champagne lifestyle on a lemonade wage. On the 16th June 2007  aged 25, we married in our local church and had a big reception which every man & their dog attended.

June 2007 – Our Wedding Day

The next few years were a blur of more travelling and even more partying.I  landed my dream job at 27 and both our careers took off. We enjoyed 2 amazing Glastonbury’s together and travelled with friends to Florida for fun packed theme park holidays. In November 2011 after 2 months of trying we found out we were pregnant and then exactly 9 months and 4 days later Harry arrived into the world. We were far from natural parents but we found a way and when other marriages buckled under the stress of a newborn our’s grew stronger. The partying stopped ( well at least for me ) and the odd night off was spent enjoying quiet meals out. In September 2015 Charley- Rose was born and she was to be the final piece in our family jigsaw. After 15 years together we have seen the best & worst of each other.

Christmas 2016 – Our Family Completed

Marriage really is a work in progress and the day we stop trying will be the day we go our separate ways. June will mark our 10th wedding anniversary and we intend to celebrate the occasion in style. We may have been young, we may not have known what we were doing but we have carved out an own path and our kind of love is worth celebrating.

What a gorgeous post. I could say that when I married my husband we were young and didn’t know what we were doing – but 30 years later we’re still together – and we still don’t know what we’re doing lol.
Wishing you many more happy years

It’s lovely to hear of marriage that is a success when we hear of so many failing marriages at the moment. My partner and I have been together 16 years this year and engaged for 15! We have had some pretty hellish times over those years but always work hard to get through it and move on. I don’t suppose we will ever get married but the commitment is there nonetheless and we both know that a relationship isn’t always sunshine and flowers! #dreamandsparkle

Well, this made me smile from beginning to end – just adorable. Happy Valentine’s Day to you both for tomorrow!

My husband and I were also very young when we met. We’ve been together for 16 years, living together for 15 years, but married only 2 and a half hears ago. We didn’t see much point in getting married until we were ready to have kids. Peachy is 14 months old. #DreamandSparkle
